Company Forgets To Order Customer's Bed

When Furniture Came, It Was Damaged

BRUNSWICK, Ohio -- Those who have children know what an event it is to finally move them out of the crib and into their own beds.

But one Brunswick family claims that a furniture company took too long to make the move happen. They called On Your Side Troubleshooter Chris Caswell for help.

Regina Streharsky (pictured, below) and her daughter Alexis waited seven months for the delivery of their new bed. When it didn't happen, they called Five On Your Side to put the problem to sleep.

For Alexis's fourth birthday, she was going to get a big girl's room, with a brand-new bedroom suite.

"It was January 15th and it came, most of it came on the 20th," Streharsky said. "They told us the sleigh bed was on back order."

Alexis got everything except her "big girl" bed.

"They never told me what happened, exactly," Streharsky said. "They only said (that) there was an error and (that) they ordered the wrong type of bed."

So the Streharskys waited and waited. They finally heard back from Seaman's Furniture of Fairlawn, Ohio.

"She said (that) they didn't order the bed at all; they forgot," Streharsky said.

Seaman's ordered the bed again, and Alexis continued to sleep on her mattress and box springs on the floor.

About six months later, Seaman's called Streharsky to tell her that the bed was in. She thought that her daughter would finally have a bed to sleep in, but when the bed was delivered, it was damaged.

Streharsky then called Five On Your Side.

Seaman's felt badly about what happened. They said that Alexis's bed was a special order -- the first time, they got the order wrong and the second time, it just took forever.

"So at this point, it's like, 'All right, give us a refund and we'll go somewhere else,'" Streharsky said. "It took a month, and we're done."

Seaman's honored the refund request, and the Streharskys ordered all new furniture from another company.

Along the way, Seaman's did offer the Streharskys discounts on the furniture for the long wait, but even with the savings, the family said that it took too long.

If you order furniture from a company, ask them for a delivery date up front. Also, ask them what they will offer you if the furniture is late or delivered damaged.

Get all promises in writing from the store manager.
