Traficant Says Gore Trying To Steal Election
Congressman Speaks Out On Radio Monday
CLEVELAND, Updated 7:19 p.m. EST November 27, 2000 -- For the second time in a week, U.S. Rep. James Traficant spoke out against the Gore campaign on a Cleveland radio station, NewsChannel5 reported. The maverick Democratic congressman, who represents the Mahoning Valley, was a guest on WTAM's morning show. With his comments, Traficant made a split from party lines -- something that he has a history of doing. "What concerns me about this is the power of the executive branch," Traficant said. "I think Gore is trying to stretch it out. He's basically trying to steal the election. There's a law in Florida. Unless the secretary of state broke that law, in my opinion, call in the dogs, throw the coffee grinds on the fire and let's move on."
Traficant has made it clear that he plans to vote to re-elect GOP House Speaker Dennis Hastert in January. Traficant was re-elected three weeks ago despite his prediction that he will be indicted in a corruption investigation. He denies any wrongdoing. Previous Stories:
